DIY Support

We offer our full development and design services for organisations who wish to create a web presence and be able to maintain it themselves on a small budget. This involves an initial fee but NO ongoing monthly or annual fees to us. In most cases, you can continue to run your site for £100 per year (for hosting and domain ownership) or even less, depending on the options you choose.

We can help you with:
  • Choosing a domain and hosting service
  • Configuring your site and email
  • Customising standard templates or designing new ones (see Development section)
  • Planning your information architecture and site structure
  • Creating initial content: images, backgrounds, logos, text
  • Steering you toward Search Engine Optimisation and marketing tools
  • Training you to add new content and maintain the site yourself
We work with a variety of well known, free or low cost and easy-to-use systems, including WordPress for blogs, Concrete5 for full-featured and extensible open source Content Management Systems and our current favourite for websites, simple blogs and e-commerce: Weebly. Our blog is WordPress, and were so impressed with Weebly that we recently rebuilt our own website using their free system to show what can be done. You're using it now - not bad, eh?

New blog-based website: Design, development and training
The client needed to set up a new blog to support and promote his successful business. Architela was engaged to set up the blog and create the initial content. We set up domain name, hosting, implemented the blog database, modified the template design, steered the client toward promotion and monetisation tools and repurposed his resources (photos, brochures and guides) into pages and blog posts.  Once this was done, we succeeded in training the client on all the tasks he needed to maintain the site and create new content. The site has now been running for three years, and he has gone from strength to strength - expanding his content and his reach on a very small annual budget.

School Inset Training: Workshop Facilitator
The client needed to improve the ICT skills of teachers, who would be required to learn a new Management Information System. Before they could expect to learn the new system, they needed to be upskilled on basic educational ICT tasks. Architela was engaged to run a series of workshops during INSET days on sending email attachments, creating PowerPoint presentations and using the interactive whiteboard. We ran a  "clinic" style training programme that included demonstration, small-group breakout sessions and one-to-one training. By the end of the workshops, we had succeeded in bridging the skills gap for the majority of attendees.

Online Learning Module: Online Facilitator
The client wanted to maximise the learning potential of an online module that formed part of an in-house management training programme for global managers. Architela was engaged to facilitate ther module on cross-cultural communication. We facilitated 22 active participants; initiated online discussions; provided consultancy to the Online Programme Manager; guided discussions & encouraged deeper thinking.
